Paper cites dubious acts in Sheriff's Office

Documents in an employment dispute between a Yellowstone County sheriff’s deputy and his commanders have revealed previously undisclosed incidents of questionable behavior and management practices in the department.

According to documents obtained by The Billings Gazette, examples include a commander whose gun was lost after he drove off with it on the roof of his patrol car and a deputy who showed up for training with alcohol on his breath.

Also, federal agents learned that a deputy coroner and his intern were using a confidential criminal justice database to look up suspects and witnesses in a gun case, and a detective suspected of drug abuse was driven in a county car to a treatment facility in Minnesota.
