County drops lawsuit against Gazette for release of jail investigation documents

Yellowstone County Commissioners voted Tuesday to hire an outside attorney to help determine how the county can discipline elected officials.

In addition, the commissioners voted to drop a lawsuit they filed against The Billings Gazette over the release of public documents after the county lost a similar lawsuit two weeks ago. They also voted to withdraw a proposed policy that would have instructed the county attorney’s office to file pre-emptive lawsuits against media outlets when the media request public documents that involve privacy concerns.
